About Kristen
I received my graduate degree at Pacifica Graduate Institute in counseling psychology with an emphasis in depth psychology. Depth psychology incorporates the unconscious in many ways including understanding dreams or involving expressive arts. I have a wide range of experience working with a variety of different traumas including abuse, neglect, and relationship difficulties. I have worked with children and parents in a school-base setting and at a psychiatric agency. I collaborated with teachers and schools to provide the care and support needed for each child. I have also participated in a three year intensive, in-depth training institute with adults that involved learning how to deeply listen and provide high quality therapy. Overall, I have almost 9 years of experience including graduate school, 3,000 hours of supervised training, and over 2 years experience as a licensed therapist.
How I work:
When working together, you will learn tools on how to cope with overwhelming emotions and fears, how to work through difficult relationship situations, and how to be more at peace with yourself. Whether you can’t stop worrying, or are feeling down without knowing why, my goal is to provide a space for you to voice your feelings and worries to start feeling better. I work by incorporating many different types of therapy, depending on my client’s needs. I will utilize therapy tools that match your unique struggles and difficulties. Please see Types of Therapy Used to learn more about the services I provide for each difficulty.
Why Marriage and Family Therapy?
As a marriage and family therapist, I look at the entire family dynamic to understand how best to help the couple and family as well as with the individual. Learning about our past relationships, especially within our family, can help us learn about our current relationships in order to break free from dynamics that are holding us back.
What is psychotherapy?
“Psyche” means soul. Thus, “psychology”is the study of the soul. Psychotherapy involves exploring all aspects of the soul, or the self, and truly listening to what emotional pain, struggles, and symptoms are trying to tell us. Just because you are hurting or have specific symptoms, doesn’t mean that something is wrong with you. It means something happened to you and your response is a normal reaction to what happened.
Scheduling an appointment:
For the initial session, my first session is called an intake session, which is the process of gathering of information to determine if we are the right fit. I will ask about your symptoms, struggles, history, and how you have been coping. I will then provide you feedback and recommendations for the treatment process moving forward.
